Ride To Eat - FarRide #8

TOTTENHAM NSW - 13th September 2008

Official Finishers List Pictures of FarRide #8

This will be of interest to those who like to take a "longer ride" with the ride being the focus not the coffee breaks. Most Ride to Eat FarRides will be planned at 1000k minimum days. This is not a group ride, there is no route to follow. Be at the Destination at the time stated and be able to complete 1000klm within a 24hr period. That is the purpose of FarRiders.

It is not of Iron Butt proportions (just yet) but its aimed at those who are after a good long days ride and to meet, although briefly, with fellow riders with the same mindset. The entry level IBA ride is called a SaddleSore 1600k which is 1600k under 24hrs IBA

The idea is to try for a minimum 500 klm ride to the food and drinks. 1000klm min for the day

Destination : TOTTENHAM, NSW - Far Cairn Rally

Date : 13th September 2008

Time : 11:30am to 12 noon meet This is the time to get there, aim for 11:30am.
12 noon lunch - I have organised lunch at the Tottenham Hotel in their dining room. Those staying overnight for the full rally which is the 13th & 14th should also prepare for that as well.

Place :

Tottenham Hotel - You must be there between 11.30am - 12 noon, it's a small town and I am sure you can find it.

At 12 noon we will eat and then head to the rally site at the showground which is one klm out of town.

This is the important part - This ride is in aid of MARI

FarRiders has always been about the ride and it still is in essence. However it came to my attention that the BMW club of NSW known as BMWTCNSW were helping to raise funds for MARI (motorcycle accident rehabilitation initiative) and I thought it was perfect for us to do a couple of things at once. Do our FarRide and help a worthy cause. Its to that end where this ride differs from previous FarRides. There is a $25.00 entry fee that gets you a badge and Sunday morning saugage sizzle and knowing your money is going to MARI. Entry fees will be payable on the day when we continue onto the showgrounds for the Far Cairn Rally. This is also open to riders not wishing to do the FarRide part but just attend and pay their entry fee for the rally. I will be camping overnight at the showgrounds and encourage everyone to do the same. Please read both of the attached PDF's for more information and background.

Tottenham is approx 120 kms north of Condobolin and 120 kms west of Dubbo.

Message Board Discussion

I have been asked where the name came from, FarRide. I watched a movie recently called Hidalgo.
Quote from online: The Ocean of Fire -- a 3,000 mile survival race across the Arabian desert--was a challenge restricted to the finest Arabian horses ever bred, the purest and noblest lines, owned by the greatest royal families. In 1890, a wealthy sheik invited an American, Frank T. Hopkins, and his horse to enter the race for the first time.

Frank was called "Far Rider" in that movie and I liked the term when related to endurance riding.
