Ride To Eat - FarRide #6

"THE WALL"

"The Wall" - Nambucca Heads NSW - 9th February 2008

Official Finishers List Pictures of FarRide #6

Come Ride - THE WALL

This will be of interest to those who like to take a "longer ride" with the ride being the focus not the coffee breaks. Most Ride to Eat FarRides will be planned at 1000k minimum days. This is not a group ride, there is no route to follow. Be at the Destination at the time stated and be able to complete 1000klm within a 24hr period. That is the purpose of FarRiders.

It is not of Iron Butt proportions (just yet) but its aimed at those who are after a good long days ride and to meet, although briefly, with fellow riders with the same mindset. The entry level IBA ride is called a SaddleSore 1600k which is 1600k under 24hrs IBA

The idea is that it be a minimum 500 klm ride to the food and drinks. 1000klm min for the day

I also recommend a few reads of the Archive of Wisdom and this excellent writeup on Fatigue

This will be a yearly FarRide location, almost like a AGM of sorts. If you can only get to one FarRide a year make it this one as its an optional stay overnight and party ride.

As Nambucca is such a wonderful location I am making this a yearly FarRide at this time of year. You will note the arrival time is an hour later than usual, this is to allow those doing the 1000klms before lunch to make it. I am encouraging everyone to make it a overnight ride so we get more time to mingle. Stay overnight and ride home Sunday, call and arrange your accomodation as its right behind the tavern. However please keep in the spirit of FarRiders. This can be done but those riders would still need to cover 1000k that day to be listed as having completed FarRide #6.

Lets say you did 600 or more before lunch, then did a scenic route which ended up back at Nambucca Heads for a 1000k for the day. You still end up at Nambucca and its, what... 6pm maybe. Nice stop over and cruise home Sunday.

Please click here and read the base rules and FAQ's that apply to ALL FarRides.
By attending a FarRide you acknowledge and agree that you have read these in full.

If anyone is interested in making this into a leg of an IBA SS1600k which is 1600k under 24hrs please let me know. A witness is required at the start and end as part of the certificate procedure, I (David "Davo" Jones) am on the Approved IBA Witness list

What to do now !!

If you are coming you MUST email me at FarRiders, if you fail to inform me you are coming prior to the meet you will not be listed as finishers on the Official Finishers List

Message Board Discussion

I have been asked where the name came from, FarRide. I watched a movie recently called Hidalgo.
Quote from online: The Ocean of Fire -- a 3,000 mile survival race across the Arabian desert--was a challenge restricted to the finest Arabian horses ever bred, the purest and noblest lines, owned by the greatest royal families. In 1890, a wealthy sheik invited an American, Frank T. Hopkins, and his horse to enter the race for the first time.

Frank was called "Far Rider" in that movie and I liked the term when related to endurance riding.
